Philosophy and Approach: Counseling and Interventions are based on the assumption that all human beings are inherently good, but sometimes make poor decisions. My approach is one that is strength-based, that is I am focused on the client’s positive assets of character rather than their negative defects of liability. It is my goal to build trust and have respect for every individual and group I provide interventions for.

Qualifications: I am a Master’s level Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the state of Oregon (CADC III). I hold a Master of Science degree in Sociology from Portland State University and Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sociology with a minor in English from Portland State University. I have nine years counseling dually-diagnosed (addictions and mental health), criminal populations, teens, DUII, and medication-assisted individuals. I abide by the Code of Ethics for Helping Professionals and receive professional training and supervision, as needed. I ask for complete commitment from the family or friends who will be a part of one of my interventions, and hope that during our first meeting we can develop a list of goals and a time-frame in which to achieve them. Phone sessions may be substituted to accommodate travel schedules. Assignments are often given to supplement the session and the expectation is that the client (or individual providing support) will complete the assignment(s) to enhance their personal progress.

As a client, you have the following rights:

  • To expect that I have met the minimum qualifications of training and experience required by state law;
  • To examine records to confirm education and credentials;
  • To obtain a copy of the Code of Ethics;
  • To report complaints to the State Board, the American Counseling Association, and/or the Better Business Bureau;
  • To be informed of the cost of professional services before receiving the services;
  • To be assured of privacy and confidentiality while receiving services as defined by rule and law, including the exceptions outlined in the Statement of Confidentiality;
  • To be free from being the object of discrimination on the basis of race, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, or other unlawful category while receiving services.
